"Dadart" The paintings of Arthur Walmsley.
My dad, Arthur Walmsley, Died in 2002. He was a fitter with ICI, but in his spare time did a lot of painting. Dad never really taught me to paint, (although he did teach others) but obviously I picked up quite a bit from him without having proper lessons. Certainly, had it not been for him I doubt that I would have ever got the idea at all. Dad always looked for "depth" in pictures, and liked maritime subjects. He did commissions at what now seem very cheap prices, consequently he did quite a few paintings of Cheshire scenes, especially churches. If you own any of his works which are not featured here please let me know and I can arrange to add them to the site. Most paintings were on hardboard, hence the coarse texture visible in some of the smaller paintings. I have only done one landscape, a copy of Deadham mill by constable. I got so bored doing it I am not doing another one (and it wasn't very good)! Dad did many more pictures than I have been able to photograph, but here is what I have as a tribute to him, a great dad, greatly missed.
